The Resurgence is an event in which dungeon portals began spawning all over Vlen leading to chaos and a breakdown in security across the continent. It was a pivotal point in the history of Vlen, as it led to the creation of the Dungeoneers, an international organization dedicated to recruiting, training, and deployment of dungeoneers to conquer dungeons. However, these dungeons were quickly discovered to bestow powerful boons, unique magical artifacts, and knowledge lost to the ages, so empires ands nations began competing for the resources from these dungeons.

The Resurgence completely altered the socio-politico-economic landscape of Faunas. The money, the status, the international edge these dungeons provided, was worth the risk of losing one’s life. It led to a Dungeon Arms Race, and the first empire to gain an edge over it’s neighbors, would act accordingly.

Very few know why the Resurgence occurred. Many believe it to be a cosmic ordinance passed by Asgorath, others say it was a blight created by the devils and demons. In truth Dungeon’s have always existed, they were simply too difficult to find. One dungeon in particular was discovered in the Lakt region. No one knew what it was, but it was attracting powerful creatures around it. An adventuring party consisting of Don Dobilia and Ashalia Trastengaard ventured into the Dungeon with 2 other party members. In there, the party ventured towards the Dungeon Boss, known as the Azure Wolf.

One of the party members was quickly killed, while the other was permanently crippled from the encounter. Don was grievously wounded, but managed to land the killing blow on the beast. After the beast was felled, a Dungeon Maker appeared before the party. They were the first mortals to conquer a dungeon in the last 500 years, so as a reward the Dungeon Maker offered a reward. The 3 surviving party members received power that far exceeded the limits of normal mortals, and one wish. Before anyone could say anything, Don spoke “I wish for more of these challenges, to prove my worth to the Gods.”

And with that wish, The Resurgence began.
